1. How to Measure a Wall for a Mural

A perfect mural install is based on accurate measurement. Here's how to do it:

Empty furniture and fixtures off the wall.
Determine the width at three positions; top, middle, and bottom. Record the largest.
Take the measurement of height at three places- left, center and right. Record the largest.
Measure baseboards and ceilings - always measure at finished edges (floor or baseboard, and ceiling or crown molding).
Extra margin - it is always advisable to add 2-3 inches to the width and the height so that it can be cut to fit into place.

Wall width: 120 inches
Panel width: 30 inches

Panel width: 36 inches
Panel count = 220 ÷ 36 = 6.1 → 7 panels (rounded up)

4. Layout & Cropping Considerations

Centering the design: The center of focal points should be on the center of the wall
Removing edges: Edges to be expected to be trimmed at the left, right and at the top and bottom.
Patterns of balance: Don’t trim too much from one side.

Additional planning of some walls is required:

Non-rectangular walls: Measure the tallest and widest point, and cut off the extra ones post-installation.
Horizontal paneling: This is uncommon, but applied in panoramic views.
The entire wall should be measured around windows/doors, not only the space that is open.
