Custom Ceiling Mural for a High-Rise Restaurant
A restaurant above the city has to compete with its own view. At this high-rise restaurant in Dubai, the design team wanted one hand-painted artwork to run across the ceiling, a feature niche and the washroom, and the contractor needed all 1,800 sq ft on site within 10 business days to keep the opening on schedule.
Project Overview
Walls Republic produced and supplied the custom ceiling mural and matching wall murals for each surface: 1,800 sq ft of commercial vinyl paneled to the artwork so the brushwork reads as one continuous painting once hung.
The Challenge
One Painting, Three Very Different Surfaces
The artwork had to read as a single hand-painted language, yet each surface asked something different of the material. The ceiling sits overhead inside a lit cove, the niche sits behind open shelving with integrated lighting, and the washroom wall faces daily humidity and cleaning.
On top of that, the schedule left no room for a standard production queue.
The project required a solution that could deliver:
- Original artwork produced to the room, not a stock design resized to fit.
- Visible brushstroke texture that holds up under close, warm lighting.
- Panel breaks planned so seams disappear across large abstract fields and sharp color breaks.
- All 1,800 sq ft on site within 10 business days of order.
The Solution
A Custom Ceiling Mural, Carried Through the Niche and Washroom
Rather than adapting a catalog design, Walls Republic produced the custom murals specifically for this space on Type II commercial vinyl, scaled to each surface so the brushwork lands where the designers intended.
The palette runs from deep navy and crimson through mustard, blush and warm cream, with dry-brush texture printed at full scale so it reads as paint even at arm's length.
Every panel was planned, printed and numbered in hanging order, giving the installation team one consistent material source across all three surfaces.
A Ceiling Mural That Carries Through Every Surface
The ceiling sets the tone with a bold abstract composition, while the niche and washroom translate the same painterly language into landscape and botanical scenes. Together they make the restaurant feel like one continuous piece of artwork.
The Ceiling
A bold abstract composition fills the recessed ceiling coffer above the main dining floor. Framed by cove lighting, it turns the ceiling into the room's signature piece.
The Feature Niche
Behind backlit timber shelving, a stylized landscape of trees and rolling hills fills an arched niche. The shelves frame the artwork rather than hide it.
The Washroom
A full-height botanical landscape in terracotta, teal and gold wraps the washroom wall, paired with a round beaded mirror and sculptural basin.
Built for Hospitality Performance
Appearance was only part of the specification. The murals were produced on Type II, 20 oz commercial vinyl rated ASTM E84 Class A, suited to a high-use restaurant.
By combining custom production with commercial-grade material and a fast turnaround, the project did not have to choose between original artwork, performance and schedule.
Fire rating

What Walls Republic Delivered
- Custom artwork productionMurals produced to the exact dimensions of the ceiling, niche and washroom.

The result
A restaurant where the room is the artwork
Guests now look up as often as they look out. The ceiling anchors the dining room, the niche draws the eye to the center of the space, and the washroom gives guests a moment worth sharing.
For the design team, the result is original artwork built around their concept, delivered on schedule, not a compromise forced by standard sizes or lead times.
For Walls Republic, the project shows how custom mural production can turn every surface of a restaurant or hospitality space into a deliberate design moment.
